Fundamentals of French grammar, with drills in written and spoken French. Use of language is stressed through practical exercises in guided French conversation. Emphasis is placed on development of proficiency in four fundamental skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Accelerated second-year course designed for honors students and students intending to major or minor in French. Emphasizes selected readings in classic and modern works of literature, which form the basis of discussions and compositions; intensive review of grammar is also included. This course satisfies the 201-202 General Studies requirements for language. Prerequisite: FLF 102 or equivalent.

HFLF 342  Adv. French Grammar  3 Credits  
Third-year course in French grammar and composition designed to enhance the student’s proficiency in the use of spoken and written French and to familiarize him with the most difficult idiomatic and literary expressions of the language. Frequent written and oral exercises, including themes, translation (principally from English to French), reports on assigned subjects, and compositions. Required for major and minor. Prerequisite: FLF 202 or equivalen

Study of French people from their origins to the present time through their geographical, historical, economic, and cultural backgrounds. 447 is required for the major.
