Program Description
The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education Degree Program prepares students to be certified to teach preschool to grade five (P-5). Applicants who are interested in eligibility for teacher certification should contact the department chair.
Admissions Requirements
In addition to the General Admissions Requirements as published in this Catalog, applicants to the program must submit the following:
- Acceptable written responses to questions relating to the conceptual framework of the School of Education.
- A completed Department of Curriculum and Instruction admissions packet.
- Documentation of national background check results consistent with teacher certification requirements.
- Evidence of personal liability insurance prior to placement for all field experiences.
- Candidates must obtain a pre-service certificate prior to Practicum I—the first clinical experience.
- A 3.0 GPA
Student Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Elementary Education Degree Program will be able to:
- Apply a broad knowledge of instructional strategies that draws upon content, pedagogical and cultural competence.
- Develop and implement meaningful learning experiences that support academic achievement of diverse learners, their families, and communities.
- Demonstrate classroom behaviors that are consistent with the ideals of fairness and the belief that all students can learn.
- Apply authentic emerging models of best practices in diverse field settings based on research on teaching and learning for P-12 classrooms.

Pre-service Teaching is a sixteen-week, full-time professional experience in the field that precludes the candidate taking any other courses or working. Participation in a weekly seminar is required. Prerequisites include passing the relevant Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators content tests and satisfying all other degree requirements.
Note: A minimum final grade of “C” is required for CMAT 104 Finite Mathematics, CMAT 105 Pre-Calculus I, CENG 105 College Composition I, CENG 106 College Composition II, CSTA 101 Fundamentals of Speech and all Education courses.
