Welcome to Clark Atlanta University (CAU)!

I am elated you have chosen to adopt and embrace the academic, historical, and creative spirit of the founding forbearers of CAU—and its parent institutions—Atlanta University (founded in 1865), and Clark University (founded in 1869 and later renamed Clark College).

A day in the life of a Clark Atlanta University Student Scholar reflects an exciting and rich balance of:

  • Intensive research and development;
  • An on-the-move student engagement community, including auxiliary clubs and student government;
  • An engaging, diverse, and dynamic world-class faculty and staff;
  • A focused and enthusiastic alum’ community;
  • A dynamic community relation partnership; and
  • A championship-winning athletics program.

Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, CAU is the largest of the United Negro College Fund Institutions. Our 104-acre campus is located in the heart of Atlanta—the epicenter of the Civil Rights Movement and the modern center of emerging technologies and innovation. It is the anchor and center of the Atlanta University Center—the nation’s oldest consortium of historically black institutions.

We are guided by a set of enduring core values and founding principles, seizing the future today! We embrace our values in all we do to continue enhancing the “One Exceptional University” experience and spirit! Those values include P. R. I. D. E.:

  • People - Create a culture of community and belonging that demonstrates/reflects a positive campus environment for all.
  • Research - Honor the dignity and worth of all individuals as we foster a culture of service.
  • Innovation - Ignite new possibilities in research and advance knowledge that serves humanity.
  • Diversity - Embrace and celebrate the diverse experiences of our students, faculty, and staff as we work to build a supportive and inclusive campus community.
  • Excellence - Commit to high-quality standards and quest for truth, in all we do.

I invite you to explore CAU’s programs, offerings, and services. You are sure to find a myriad of opportunities for excellence, engagement, and service in a community built on a promise of honor, dignity, respect, and integrity.

Again, welcome to our community of scholars—students, parents, trustees, faculty, and staff—working together to deliver a passionate experience of learning and discovery. Best wishes for an association filled with favorable and gratifying experiences. I bid you God-speed as you endeavor to achieve your academic and professional goals here at Clark Atlanta University!

Sincerely,

George T. French, Jr., Ph.D.
